Apple's new iPhone is here...

The new iPhone 7 - Apple's latest flagship smartphone, was unveiled last September 7, and here are some things you need to know about the device.

Release date

The iPhone 7 is set to be released on Friday, September 16 in 28 countries including the US and the UK, with iPhone 7 pre-orders already open. It is not yet sure if the Philippines is one of those countries, but base on our research local Telecommunications company and some online stores are already rolling some pre-orders.

iPhone Price and Storage

The cheapest retail price for iPhone 7 starts at $649 for the 32GB variant, roughly around Php30,700 in Philippine currency. If you are opting for the 64GB variant, there will be none. Apple has scrapped the 64GB instead you can get 128GB for $749, around Php35,000. The company has also introduced its new 256GB variant which will give you more storage space. The variant is priced $849, around Php40,000.

Design and features

The iPhone 7 has the same identical dimensions as the iPhone 6s, though it is lighter by 5g at 138g compared to its big brother at 143g. The antenna band on the back is moved to the sides, giving the device a seamless design. The iPhone 7 also has a new color, the color space gray is now omitted with the addition of Jet Black, which is glossy and gorgeous but is prone to fingerprints, and the Matte black. Another new to its design, which other hate is its noticeable camera bump.

The new iPhone 7 is now IP67. This is not a new feature in 2016 but new to the device. On the recent 6s, many YouTubers posted some videos showing the iPhone 6s compactness by submerging it into the water even if the company does not advise it. With this new addition, you can now use your iPhone in a bath or in the rain.

iPhone 7 camera

On the new device, Apple upgrades its camera with a brand new 12MP sensor on the rear and a larger 7MP HD front selfie snapper. The iPhone 7 also has a new camera system and now with OIS(Optical Image Stabilization), a feature which can only be found on iPhone 6s Plus and not in iPhone 6s. The new camera boasts a wide-aperture lens on the back, which allows more light and more energy efficient.

iPhone 7 no headphone jack

Yes, you read it right! No more headphone jack for the new iPhone 7 and they are branding it as 'courage'. You can still insert a 3.5mm earphone by buying a USB Type-C to 3.5mm dongle, but we know what you are thinking - you can loose a device that small.

No need to worry at all folks. You get a set of Lightning EarPods in the box, meaning you'll be able to plug in right away. But with only one port, you cannot listen to your music while charging it - bad news to some.

If you have the money, $159 to be exact or around Php7,500, you can buy the AirPods - Apple's first wireless Bluetooth earbuds. You can listen to music for about 5 hours in a single charge and it also sports a dual microphone in which you can use to take calls or interact with Siri. The AirPod comes with its own case which houses its own battery providing up to 24 hours of playback.

iPhone 7 battery

The new iPhone has the best battery life according to Apple. The company said the new handset is 2 hours more life than the iPhone 6s. This is good news after all the company still, does not upgrade to fast charge.

iPhone 7 display

No OLED display, the iPhone 7 has still the same 4.7-inch display sports a 1334x750 resolution same as the 6s, which in turns gives you a 326ppi pixel density. Crank up the brightness bar on the new iPhone and your eyes will be in for a treat. Apple has upped the brightness of the display on the iPhone 7, for an even brighter, bolder visual experience.

iPhone 7 OS and Performance

The iPhone 7 will be launch with iOS 10, and it's a tremendous feature upgrade over iOS 9.3. The new OS comes with a smarter Siri that can command third-party apps, new Messaging functionality, and a convenient Raise to Wake way of lighting up the phone. Not only the software is upgraded but iPhone 7 also gets a performance boost, with the phone packing a four-core, 64-bit Apple A10 Fusion chip.

This is a major upgrade from the company since their dual-core processor in the iPhone 6S. Apple says the iPhone 7 is 40% faster than its predecessor, and twice as fast as the iPhone 6.

Apple hasn't confirmed the amount of RAM inside the iPhone 7 but some reports suggest it may be a 2GB lesser than its bigger brother, iPhone 7 Plus with 3GB of RAM supposedly inside.

iPhone 7 home button

Apple's iconic home button have been redesigned. It now features the same pressure sensitive technology as the touchpad on the new MacBooks, as well as delivering haptic feedback.
