How to back up your Android device


Back-ups are essential for phones in case it get lost or stolen.

Also, now that Android 7.0 Nougat is released, most of you would like to upgrade to the latest version on your smartphone and tablets. This means if don't like the new upgrade you needed the backup files to get your device back to the way it was before.

Syncing with cloud services is a breeze in Android. Android itself is custom-built so you can use online services to backup important data such as emails, contacts, and calendars. The Google sync feature in Android backups contacts, calendar, email, and bookmarks, if set to default and you are using the apps associated with each(Google made apps).

Android can also back up a lot of important app data but not as good as in iOS. For better measurement, it is better to take actions on you own.

Enabling Backups on Your Android Device

- Enable Android's built-in backup feature, if not yet set.
- Open Settings > Backup and Reset
- Check 'Back up my data'
- Check 'Automatic Restore'

This will keep an automatic backup of your Android data and settings online and tied to a Gmail account. Resetting your Android device, or buying a new one, will only need Gmail account and your data and settings will be downloaded and restored.

This is one of the easiest ways to backup Android devices, but using third party tools could be helpful as well.

App backup

For Non-rooted Phones
One useful backup solutions in the Play Store is the Easy Backup & Restore. It is a free app that lets you backup your contacts, call logs, text messages, calendars, and bookmarks.


Even if Easy Backup doesn't back up your photos, music, videos or documents you can easily back up your file through a USB cable and your computer.

For Rooted Phones
For rooted device there is no better backup solution than Titanium Backup. It lets you back up absolutely everything on your phone. The complete backup can be restored at any time and you can set up scheduled backups so you have a regular snapshot of your Android phone's contents.


Backups can be saved as flashable zips. Titanium also lets you transfer files between the SD card and your phone with the utmost ease.


For dummies - PC Backup

If these sounds like way too complicated, simply connect your Android phone to your PC with a USB cable, open a Windows Explorer window and navigate to your phone. Here you will see a bunch of folders including photos, videos, music, and documents.



Just copy paste the stuff you want to save onto your computer for safekeeping.
