A Take On Chrome OS: Say Hello To Microsoft Windows 10 S

Designed for schools, the new version will only run apps from the Store

A new version of Windows 10 is announced today, Windows 10 S. It is a simplified version of Windows which answers to Chrome OS. This Operating system is aimed at low-end hardware devices without losing the whole functionality of the Pro version.

Designed for schools, the new version will only run apps from the Store. Although not mentioned, it doesn't mean that desktop apps won't run on this version of Windows 10, but some packages will be needed to do so. The ability to get apps only from the store also means compatibility and is also intended for more machine consistency in performance, security and battery life. As this is intended for students, a crucial aim for this OS is to deliver a faster performance which is what makes Chrome OS popular with students nowadays.

As reported Microsoft has tweaked its login time for the first time use unlike the long process we used to when using our devices for the first time in the Pro version. Another feature is that you can setup machine using a USB drive which is familiar with Chrome OS's CloudReady Software.

It is expected that this OS will be used in a variety of devices which start at $189 (around Php 9,800) this summer, and all machines will ship with a free subscription to Minecraft: Education Edition. Windows 10 S will also be free for all schools that are currently running Windows 10 Pro PCs and include free Office 365 education with Microsoft Teams.

We are hoping that this move by Microsoft will be a success knowing that in this age of technology, even students needed a cheap yet trusty device that they can count on.
