Google’s New Flagship Smartphone - The Pixel

Google is now making its own mobile devices but this time with Google's logo only and its latest Flagship is the Google Pixel. This also marks the end of Nexus line of smartphones.

The Google Pixel is packed with up to date specs and the latest Android 7.0 Nougat OS which means it is directly in competition with the likes of Samsung Note 7 and Apple iPhone 7.

The new smartphone features a new UI, unlike the usual Android UI. It doesn't have an App drawer button but instead you need to swipe up to sell all the installed applications on your phone. Although the phone is running Android 7.0 it is modified to integrate with Google's Assistant and also supports Daydream - Google's virtual reality platform.

On the technical side, the handset is packed large numbers. It has an excellent 12.3MP rear camera which recently received a high score of 89 from DXOMark - a leading imaging benchmarking group. It tops the said test together with champs like HTC 10, Samsung Galaxy S7/S7 Edge, and Sony Xperia X Performance on the list. The Pixel also sports the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 chipset and is paired with 4GB of RAM just like most flagship devices.

Although its storage capacity is not expandable the base model is fair enough with 32GB of internal storage. You should opt for the 128GB version for more future proof reasons, after all, most new apps are storage hungry. The Pixels battery is small but is compensated by fast charging capabilities. The company said it would last up to 7 hours with just a fifteen-minute charge.

This new device is a collaboration of HTC and Google even if it would bear the name of Google on its back instead of HTC like the previous Nexus Flagship. The Taiwanese tech giant HTC will manufacture the Pixel and the Pixel XL, but all of the design were made by Google. With this starts Google's venture into phone manufacturing business.

What do you think of this move by the Tech Giant? How does this affect other company now that it is competing against the likes of LG, Samsung, and Huawei — makers of their Nexus devices? Leave your comments below.
